Musician Sound Design
I started to develop electronics as a child and I always looked into all the machines my parents used... but not always able to work the units very well. My neighbor (Mr Elsner) was a engineer for airplanes in the war and worked later for Ford Germany. So from him I learned much about mechanics.

In the year 1989, I first worked for Valley Arts Germany in the guitar and electronic workshop.

The Silvermachine Wah was the first working touch sensitive wah pedal in the world. It was developed at 1998 and I have a special German Patent for it.

The new products are the Bonnie Blue and Union Jack overdrive and they make the same harmonic distortion as a triode and for tweeking the pedals I use a Panasonic Audio Analyzer and a Spectral Analyzer.

Hardy Kurandt
I have also developed a Class A guitar amp and tube headphone.

In 1989-1992, I was the co-founder and chief developer of MSD (Musician Sound Design) working for Valley Arts Germany, first building guitars, than working in the electronic workshop. Between other things I was cooperating in the development of all electronic products for G Arts (German Arts, a branch of Valley Arts) and was mainly involved in the development of guitar electronics and modification of tube amps.

Cone Head Guitar
1993 - I founded Kurandt Guitar Electronics and developed his first own product line of active EQs for bass and guitar. I supplied SKC GmbH for their product Bogart Basses. I developed an active EQ for Warwick (MEC) and a special parametric EQ for Tony Levins fretless Bogart Bass. In the following years I worked mainly in modifying tube amps and optimising guitars.

1997 - I developed the Automagic Wah and Frank Bell became a partner in the foundation of MSD, to specialise in the design and development of high end sound equipment for musicians with an emphasis on guitar and bass equipment.

1998 - Development started on the Cone Head guitar and I had a column in Germany's biggest music magazine "Musik Fachblatt" on guitar electronics.

1999 - Development started on the Merlin 650 Bass Amps for the new product line Merlin Bass Amplification and I was still writing for "Musik Fachblatt".

2000 - Development started on a preamp for Ulrich Teuffel Guitars (models: Birdfish, Tesla).

2003 - MSD concentrated more on guitar and bass effects including the new development of the Paranoid and Silverstone distortion pedals.

2004 - Development started on the studio monitors

2005/6 - Development started on the British Steel distortion pedal and the development and production of the Fame Bass Cabinets for Music Store Cologne. Furthermore development of our own product line Bass Equipment Ironman and the development of measuring equipment for audio application.

2008 - Development started for the Bonnie Blue, Union Jack and for Fame Music Store some Tube Guitar Amps.

We have a workshop in the Lindenstasse in Colone and produce over 800 pieces in year.

At this time I have a new love, old JBL parts and I have learned how to repair them.

Union Jack

Union Jack, Overdrive

The Union Jack overdrive is a brand new development that perfectly complements the rest of the MSD product line. This device reproduces the typical British sounds of the sixties and early seventies - the sound texture reminiscent of Eric Clapton and Cream, Jimmy Page or Paul Kossoff. This being said, the Union Jack sounds the best when placed in front of a Marshall or Vox Amp. The overdrive sound is rich and full, and this tonality is retained even as the amount of Distortion is increased. When using a small amplifier or combo, we recommend using the Deep switch which significantly increases the degree of low-end response. Thanks to its enormous headroom, The Union Jack provides stable, consistent overdrive in front of any amplifier and never sounds muddy or undefined. Only the highest quality components are used in the construction of the Union Jack, including the meticulous hand-selection of the transistors that guarantees perfect, consistent operation from unit to unit.

Union Jack features include:
* Stainless Steel Chassis
* Metal Pots and Switches
* True Bypass Switch
* 9 VDC Jack
* Easy-access battery compartment
Technical Specifications:
Power supply: 6 - 18 V DC normally 9 V DC.
Power consumption: 7 mA.
Weight: 0.8 KG
Dimensions: B 11.5 x H 13.7 x T 5.5 cm

Bonnie Blue

Bonnie Blue, Overdrive

The Bonnie Blue overdrive is a brand new development that perfectly complements the rest of the MSD product line. Thanks to its innovative voltage-doubling technology, the Bonnie Blue recreates the typical American overdrive sounds of the seventies with remarkable accuracy. The legendary "Hollow-Honk-Sound" of the Allman Brothers, the creamy Les Paul - Soli of the Eagles, Santanaıs glowing Woodstock-Tone or singing, dynamic runs from Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks all this and more can be achieved with the Bonnie Blue. At full overdrive settings, the tone of the Bonnie Blue can even achieve the legendary Tone Bender sounds of Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page! Thanks to its enormous headroom, The Union Jack provides stable, consistent overdrive in front of any amplifier and never sounds muddy or undefined. The gain switch also allows use as a clean-booster with low distortion. Only the highest quality components are used in the construction of the Bonnie Blue, including the meticulous hand-selection of the transistors that guarantees perfect, consistent operation from unit to unit.

Bonnie Blue features include:
* Stainless Steel Chassis
* Metal Pots and Switches
* True Bypass Switch
* 9 VDC Jack
* Easy-access battery compartment
Technical Specifications:
Power supply: 9 V DC
Power consumption: 7 mA.

Paranoid

Paranoid, Sabbath-Style-Fuzz

PARANOID RETRO FUZZ Do you prefer the sound of an Orange to a Vox? Were you more excited about the Ozzy reunion w/Sabbath than David Lee getting back w/VH? Silver Machine MKII

Silver Machine MKII

With its 1.7kg weight and its low-profile stainless steel housing, the Silver Machine sits firmly on the ground and is highly resistant to unwanted movement as well as being comfortable for the musician to use. The unique Automagic sensor activates the effect as soon as a foot is laid upon the pedal. This allows it to rapidly bring the effect into play without any additional pressing of footswitches. The wide and carefully chosen angle over which the pedal operates guarantees precise control over the sound and the effect, and a newly-developed ultra-low-noise circuit means that switching is practically noiseless.The filter itself also displays extremely low noise characteristics and makes the device ideal for studio use.

Three function selectors vary the filter circuitry directly and offer a host of sound variations:- hot, funky sounds, biting heavy riffs and out-of-this-world Space effects. The Earth and Quake selectors can be used in combination to produce a total of 12 sound configurations. The Earth selector switches between three different frequency ranges and the Quake knob is responsible for the "Q-Factor" - altering the band width of the filter. The mini switch lets you change instantaneously between Modern and Classic modes, where "Classic" represents the familiar wah-wah effect while "Modern" supplies the opportunity to create new and subtle variations by mixing the effect signal with the original input. The mode is indicated by means of the LED. For the Modern mode a trimming potentiometer on the circuit board governs the mix between the original and effects signals.

Silvermachine MKII features:
* Stainless Steel Chassis
* Metal Pots and Switches
* Electronic True Bypass Switch
* Two paralell outputs for easy operation.. tuner..
* 9 VDC Jack
* Easy-access battery compartment
Technical Specifications:
Power supply: 6 - 18 V DC normally 9 V DC.
Power consumption: 2,7 mA.
Weight 1,8 KG
Dimensions: B 13,0 x T 24,5 x H 5,7cm

QuakeMachine MKII

Our brand new wah-wah device for bass and synthesiser. The very first such effect designed to function deep into the bass. A frequency range that extends as low as 41Hz offers a raft of sound possibilities especially optimised for the "low end". The result is mean, monster bass. It features the Earth and Quake selectors as well as fine-tuning possibilities. In the Modern mode, the effect signal can be mixed with the original to maintain a powerful bass presence that´s worth its weight in gold. The Classic mode opens whole new dimensions of sound for the bass guitar. Suddenly the bass is able to produce sounds that were previously only possible with the filters of a synthesiser.
